Blessing Bag Ministry
Providing Support for the Homeless in Our Community
The Blessing Bags Ministry provides essential items to those who are homeless in our community. Our efforts produce 150 bags each month, which are then given to the Bakersfield Police Department and The Mission at Kern County to distribute. In addition to essential items, each bag contains items to address Spiritual needs—a prayer card, reading material, a handwritten note.
There are many ways to help:
Essential Items
Travel-sized hygiene items such as shampoo/condition, soap, toothbrush/paste, etc.
Comfort Items
Lip balm, lotion, water, protein snacks, socks, seasonal outwear, etc.
Donate
Finances to ensure there are enough items for each bag.
Volunteer
We rely on volunteers to sort and pack items.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — “I was personally doing blessing bags and I had a certain goal I wanted to do each month," said Colleen Scanlon.
Colleen keeps bags filled with necessities in her car. She and her daughter hand them out to the homeless.
“I just thought, okay we [have] to be able to do this bigger and better. Not necessarily for any glory, just to reach as many people as we can," she said.
