Liturgical Ministry

What is a Liturgical Minister?

Lay (non-ordained) liturgical ministers participate directly during Mass and other sacred liturgies, and in the care of the sanctuary and church. Working as a team, the Liturgical Ministers deepen the relationship between God and His people, including themselves, through the preparation and celebration of the Mass.

Volunteer liturgical ministers are asked to serve once per month, and may also serve as a substitute.

Please contact Irma DeLos Reyes at irma@setoncatholicchurch.org for more information.

Altar Linen Care

With deep love and reverence for the Holy Eucharist, the Altar Linen Care Ministry cares for the sacred linens on a rotating schedule. Training is provided on how to care for these special linens that may contain the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. This ministry is made up of team members who, behind the scenes in their own homes, reverently launder and care for the linens known as purificators and corporals used on the altar at Mass.

Altar Servers

Altar Servers fill a very important role during Mass. By assisting the priest at the altar, they help to make worship more reverent, efficient and beautiful. Those wishing to serve in this very special ministry should be in grade 5 or above, and have received their First Communion.

Requirements:

  • Altar Servers must have a strong desire to serve at the Altar of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

  • An Altar Server must be of a more advanced maturity than their peers to serve properly.

  • You must have made your First Eucharist

  • You must be a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish

  • You must be in Grade 5+ at the start of the current school year (i.e. just "graduated" from the 4th grade).

  • You must know how to genuflect, make the Sign of the Cross, be willing to pray aloud, and know the appropriate responses during Mass.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are members of the congregation who are commissioned to help with the distribution of Communion at Mass.

Hospitality at Mass

Ushers and Greeters convey a welcoming and hospitable spirit at Mass.

  • GREETERS warmly welcome parishioners and visitors as they arrive and assist those with special needs.

  • USHERS help people be seated for Mass, assist people with disabilities, collect the offertory, and assist the Communion Procession.

  • AFTER MASS HOSPITALITY serves donut and coffee to our community.

We're always looking for more volunteers!

Lectors

Lectors proclaim the Scripture readings at Sunday Mass. Training is provided for this important ministry and lectors are assigned on a rotating basis at a particular Mass. Please contact Deacon Noel and Irma Delos Reyes at deaconnoel@setoncatholicchurch.org

Sacristans

Sacristans are responsible for helping the priest prepare for Mass by setting out sacred vessels, linens and books. They assist in making certain that all liturgical ministers are present before Mass begins. Once Mass has concluded, the Sacristan may purify the sacred vessels for the next Mass. Training is provided. Please contact Msgr. Perry at padre@setoncatholicchurch.org.
