An estimated 38% of Americans are eligible to donate blood, but less than 3% actually donate each year. If you are healthy, become a part of the lifesaving mission of Houchin Community Blood Bank.

Most donations take about an hour, schedule your appointment by clicking here.

All donors are required to complete the donor questionnaire prior to showing up for their scheduled time, the Questionnaire must be filled out on the DAY OF donation. You can find the link to the questionnaire here.

To help you prepare for your donation, here are some important tips to keep in mind:

  • Eat iron-rich foods the week leading up to your donation. Common high-iron foods include red meat, lean beef, pork, chicken, and lamb. Plant sources like bread, fruits, vegetables, grains, and seeds are not as easily absorbed by the body.

  • Eat foods high in Vitamin C to aid in the absorption of iron plant-based.

  • Maintain adequate hydration in the week leading up to your blood donation

  • Eat a healthy meal prior to donation. Avoid fatty foods like processed meats, fried foods, and fast food. DO NOT donate on an empty stomach!

  • Drink at least 32 ounces of water 2 hours prior to your blood donation.

  • Avoid caffeine, including soda, tea, and coffee.  Caffeine is a mild diuretic and it causes your kidneys to flush extra sodium and sodium from the body.

  • Be sure to bring a list of any medications you are taking.

  • Please be prepared to show a picture ID with a date of birth. (passport, CDL, or ID)

  • Regular blood donors with Houchin Community Blood Bank are allowed to use a name badge showing their full name and picture

Thank you for supporting our blood drive.  We look forward to seeing you there!
